Joining the lab

Postdoctoral fellows

We welcome all applications from postdoctoral fellows. If you are interested in joining our team, please send an email to Mikko. It is always nice to get an email that explains why you are interested in our lab (as opposed to the thousands of other labs out there), outlines what your general interests in the field of molecular biology are, and suggests some topics you would like to study in the lab. As you can see from our research page, our interests are very wide and we are open to cool new projects.

If you send a general copy-paste email that does not specify why you are particularly interested in our lab, it will be happily ignored! (Then again, if you’re reading this you’re probably not one of those people so this sort of pointless.)

Graduate students

We take graduate students through the Department of Molecular Genetics program. The department has a rotation system where all students do three 5-week rotations in different labs. This is a great opportunity to get to know different PIs, lab environments, and research institutes. If you are interested in rotating in the lab, please get in touch with Mikko.

Undergraduate students

We usually have 2-3 full-time undergraduates in the lab in the summer and 1-2 part-time students during the semester. If you are interested in joining the lab as a summer student or as a 4th year project student, please send Mikko an email. The email should have your CV and your transcript attached, and a brief description why you are interested in the lab. Please note: PIs get many emails from undergraduates looking for research opportunities. It makes a huge difference if you put a little bit extra effort in your email rather than sending the same email to every professor.
